The extracted file is created as well , on the full path specified in the exploit file ( without content ) , but it is deleted right after checking the returned code from the callback ( before the call to WriteFile API ) . We found a way to bypass the deletion of the file , but it allows us to create empty files only . If files selected for archiving differ only by extension , a proposed archive name is based on their name part . For example , archiving dialog will propose Readme.rar if we selected Readme.txt and Readme.doc . 

 Previous versions always generated the archive name based on parent folder name for several selected files . Now by default WinRAR skips symbolic links with absolute paths in link target when extracting . Such links pointing to folders outside of extraction destination folder can present a security risk . Enable their extraction only if you are sure that archive contents is safe , such as your own backup .
